Akin to a Cinderella carriage, the 1915 Milburn is remarkable in its elegance and graceful lines. The craftsmanship gives the impression of curved glass on the sides even though curved glass wasn’t possible until the early 1950s. Twelve 6-volt batteries and a GE elevator motor provided a driving range of about 60 miles.
Between 1896 and 1929, there had been 224 electric car companies in the US. Only about half remained in production for any length of time. Some never got any further than building a single prototype. Others remained in business for two or three decades. This one is a 1915 Milburn, made in Toledo, Ohio. From 1915 to 1923, Milburn made about 4,000 electric cars.
